Privacy Policy

Policy Effective Date – March 18, 2021

TEACH.org, Inc. ("TEACH", "TEACH.org”, "we”, "us”, or "our”) operates and manages Teach Navigator (“Website”). This Privacy Policy describes, among other things, in our capacity as a data controller, the types of information we collect, how we use it, and how we share the information. Any terms not defined in this Privacy Policy are defined in our Terms of Use (“Terms").

PLEASE READ THIS PRIVACY POLICY CAREFULLY BECAUSE IT, ALONG WITH OUR TERMS, FORMS A LEGALLY BINDING AGREEMENT BETWEEN YOU AND US. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH THIS PRIVACY POLICY, YOU MAY NOT USE OUR WEBSITE.INFORMATION WE COLLECT AND HOW WE USE ITPersonal Information defined.

We use the term "Personal Information" to refer to any information you provide in connection with your use of our Website by which you can be personally identified, including but not limited to Personally Identifiable Information (PII).

In accordance with the NIST SP, "PII" is defined as “any information about an individual maintained by an [organization], including (1) any information that can be used to distinguish or trace an individual’s identity, such as name, social security number, date and place of birth, mother’s maiden name, or biometric records; and (2) any other information that is linked or linkable to an individual, such as medical, educational, contact, financial and employment information.”

Personal Information you provide voluntarily to us

We obtain Personal Information from you when you submit it to us. The Personal Information we may collect includes name, email address, phone number, ethnicity, and any other information which may be reasonably used to identify you. We may use your Personal Information to register or subscribe you for certain features, functions, services, activities, games, promotions and content on our Website (these are referred to as “Content” in our Terms). You may also email us with a question or for more information and we will use your contact information (which includes Personal Information such as an email address) to respond to your question or request. We may use your Personal Information (both on an individual basis and in the aggregate) to enhance the operation of our Website, improve our marketing and promotional efforts, statistically analyze use of our Website, update and enhance our records, maintain and improve our Website, and for other purposes identified on portions of our Website where information is collected. We may also use your Personal Information to notify you of updates, promotional offers, or important information about our Website and services.

As part of a SMS/text message service that we provide in connection with a particular campaign or service, we may collect your cell phone number, your carrier’s name, and the date, time and content of your messages, as well as other information that you provide. You will not receive SMS/text messages from us unless you expressly opt in to the service by sending JOIN, or another specific keyword provided in connection with the campaign or service, to the telephone number associated with the campaign or service. We may use the information we collect as part of this service to contact you and to provide the services you request from us. We may use an automatic dialing system to deliver text messages to you. By giving us your permission to enroll you in the service, you approve the use of an automatic dialing system to deliver text messages to you and agree that you are responsible for any charges from your carrier for SMS/text messages or data usage. Our SMS/text message service supports AT&T; Verizon Wireless; Sprint; T-Mobile; and Metro PCS, and may support other carriers. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. To stop receiving text messages, reply to any SMS/text message with STOP. You will receive an SMS/text message confirming that you have been unsubscribed. To obtain more information, reply to any SMS/text message with HELP.

Personal Information collected automatically via Cookies

When you access or visit our Website, we and our operational service providers may use technology that can recognize, collect and/or transmit information that is associated with your device. Although the term “cookie” specifically refers to a small text file that is stored on a user’s computer for record-keeping purposes, we will use the term “cookie” to refer generically to any technology that can recognize, collect and/or transmit information about your visits to our Website. This type of information includes such data as the Internet or web domain that referred you, the type of operating system and browser you are using, the date and time of your visit, data relating to activities on our Website (e.g., so-called ‘click stream’ data) and other technological attributes about your visit to our Website. This information may be used by us, among other purposes, to analyze trends, administer our Website, track user movements on our Website, and gather aggregate demographic information about visitors so we can continually improve our Website.

We may also use cookies on our Website to recognize a user’s device each time it is used to visit our Website and to keep count of how often the user returns. Cookies can also track how you use our Website and your preferences for features and functions; cookies can store information such as your user name and password so you don’t have to re-enter them each time you return to visit. You can disable or turn the cookie feature off by changing the settings on your Internet browser and you can also change the settings to stop your browser from automatically accepting cookies. Periodic review and minimization of Personal Information held by us

We periodically review our holdings of Personal Information to ensure they are accurate, relevant, timely and complete, and aim to reduce our Personal Information holdings to the minimum necessary for the proper performance of our organizational objectives.

DISCLOSURE TO THIRD PARTIES

Our policy is to not sell, rent, or lease your Personal Information. We will not provide or otherwise disclose your Personal Information to unaffiliated entities unless otherwise described in this Privacy Policy.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, we may disclose your Personal Information to our nonprofit, academic or government partners, subject to a written requirement that the Personal Information may be used only for the purpose of research or providing you with resources and opportunities related to exploring and entering the teaching profession. Additionally, we may disclose your Personal Information to the local education agency (LEA) with which you are affiliated for the purposes of understanding your engagement with Teach Navigator as long as your account is active.

We may also disclose your Personal Information to any third party we engage for the purpose of administering, marketing, operating, configuring site design, maintaining and providing internal support for our Website and Content. These third parties are called “operational service providers,” and they provide internal support to operations and activities and/or for Site design, development, hosting, marketing and operations.

Finally, we may disclose Personal Information to certain partner organizations for the sole purpose of improving your experience and to analyze performance and traffic on our website.

We also reserve the right to provide your Personal Information:

  • When we are compelled by a governmental agency, law, regulation, a court or other legal process;
  • If we believe you are, have or may violate or in order to enforce any law, regulation, our Terms;
  • If we believe you are or may be a threat to safety, property, interests or rights of us or others;
  • In order to investigate, respond to or resolve problems or inquiries or defend our interests;
  • In a merger, acquisition, change of control, joint venture or other business combination; or
  • When you otherwise consent

You should also be aware we are a nonprofit organization and simply because a website or web page includes our logo, name or otherwise refers to us, does not mean the website or web page is ours or under our control. If you enter, provide or submit Personal Information on or to a co-branded website or webpage you may be subject to the terms, conditions and privacy policies of the third party sponsor, advertiser, government agency or co-branding organization.

SECURITY

We apply appropriate safeguards to maintain the confidentiality, integrity and accessibility of Personal Information. Some factors we assess in determining appropriate policy, procedures and controls for categories of Personal Information include a number of key “impact level” factors: identifiability, quantity, sensitivity, context of use, obligations to protect confidentiality, and accessibility and location of Personal Information.

So, for example, we limit information access to individuals who need to have such access to perform their responsibilities associated with our Website and the Content. We may de-identify (and anonymize) records when full records are not necessary. We may encrypt transmissions of Personal Information. We have comprehensive policies and procedures for handling Personal Information at various levels of our organization. We have preparations and procedures for handling information security incidents.

However, while we strive to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee the security of your Personal Information and your communications when using our Website.

YOUR RIGHTS

You have the right (a) to obtain confirmation whether we have data relating to you, (b) to have communicated to you data relating to you within a reasonable time at a charge, if any, that is not excessive and in a form that is readily intelligible to you, (c) to be given reasons if a request under (a) or (b) is denied, and to be able to challenge such denial, and (d) to challenge data relating to you, and if the challenge is successful, to have the data erased, rectified, completed or amended.

We may require you to verify your identity in connection with any such request.

In general, we offer you the ability to opt out of receiving commercial emails and other commercial communications from us in the future. Our Website and/or email communications will provide you with instructions and the procedures you can use to opt out when applicable.

YOUR CALIFORNIA PRIVACY RIGHTS

California law permits our customers who are California residents to request and obtain from us information about the personal information (if any) we disclosed to third parties for their direct marketing purposes in the preceding calendar year. If applicable, this information would include a list of the categories of personal information that was shared and the names and addresses of all third parties with which we shared information in the immediately preceding twelve calendar months. At this time, we do not disclose your personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes so this requirement does not apply to us.

CHILDREN

You may not submit your personal information unless you are at least 13 years old. Children under the age of 13 that have registered with this Website are in violation of our Terms. If you believe that your child under the age of 13 has provided his or her personal information to us, please notify us immediately by contacting us at support@teachnavigator.org. You may be required to provide verifiable identification that you are the child’s parent or legal guardian.

CHANGES TO PRIVACY POLICY

We may edit, amend, modify and update our Privacy Policy at any time by posting updated text on or links to our Website.

When we make material changes to our Privacy Policy, we will notify you. We display the Effective Date at the top of our Privacy Policy so that you will know when there has been a change. Your continued use of our Website after any such changes constitutes your acceptance to the modified terms and conditions set forth herein.
